Lorne Sullivan - Environmental Consultant

Lorne is of aboriginal ancestry and received a graduate diploma in Renewable Resources Technology at the Kelsey Institute, Saskatoon, SK in 1981. Lorne retired from his position as a Senior Ecological Protection Specialist in November 2010 after spending 8 years specifically managing the Ministry’s interests in industrial activities (primarily oil and gas, mineral exploration and utilities with linear developments) in west central and central Saskatchewan. During the 30 years with Saskatchewan Ministry of Environment he also has experience in the regulatory and compliance (as a Conservation Officer), wildlife and fisheries management disciplines (Senior Fish and Wildlife Specialist). Lorne was also a key person in the Province’s Aerial Wildlife Survey Team. Lorne has a thorough understanding of the principles of ecosystem and risk based management, environmental protection concepts, and environmental legislation and protocols used by the Ministry in decision-making. Lorne developed the Ministry’s Power Point Presentation for Oil and Gas Development and Exploration aimed at all the industry’s key proponents and other users (Crown Corps), ensuring that accurate and complete submissions are submitted to the Ministry of Environment. Lorne has significant experience in the placement of wells, pipelines and access roads in the most cost effective environmentally friendly manner. Lorne was a contributor to designing and implementing environmental review processes and program delivery strategies for the oil and gas, mineral exploration and utility industries in Saskatchewan. Working with the Ministry has also provided Lorne with extensive experience in consultation with various interest groups, First Nations, government agencies and the public as well as a thorough understanding of the function and role performed by various government agencies in and outside of Saskatchewan.

Lorne is an Environmental Consultant specializing in oil and gas exploration and development projects in Saskatchewan, and has completed environmental assessments on some of the most sensitive areas within the province (Special Use Area Manitou Sandhills IRMP) including construction projects within frozen waterbodies. Lorne has taken numerous courses including Wetlands Management in Saskatchewan, Fire in Ecosystem Management, Saskatchewan’s Rare Plant Survey Techniques and Identification, Riparian Habitat Evaluation-Wetland Management, Water Crossing Workshop (Erosion and Sediment Control), and Rangeland Health Assessment workshops.
